Tips to Managing Your Time
Q: I can’t seem to stay focused with my business. Each day starts out okay but before I know it, half the day is gone and I’m still on the first few tasks. Do you have any tips for staying focused?
A: Most online business owners will tell you that it’s very easy to get distracted while conducting day-to-day business. Between research, networking and other tasks we have to do, it’s a wonder we get anything done.
Here are a few things to keep in mind when you sit down to start your day:
Create To-Do Lists
Before you sign off for the night, make a list of the things you must get done the next day. Then mark things off as you complete them.
Break Down Large Projects
Large projects can be overwhelming. Instead of thinking of the project as a whole, try breaking it down into manageable tasks. Add one part of the project to each day’s To Do list and before you know it, the whole project will be complete.
Use A Timer
If you always seem to be working on a single task, use a timer to remind of of when to stop. Decide how long a task should take, set the timer and when it goes off, you stop and move on to the next task.
A timer is also good for reminding yourself to take frequent breaks. Even short 5 minute breaks can help you keep your focus.
When You Get Off Track…Move!
If you find yourself off task, stop and take a break. Take a short walk, drink a glass of water or stretch a few minutes. When you come back, you’ll be refreshed and ready-to-work.
Switch Tactics
If you’re working on a project but just can’t seem to stay focused, stop what you’re doing and move on to something new. Come back to the first task when you feel more focused.
Remember, Rome wasn’t built in a day and your business won’t be either. The key is to keep working at it.
